We want to emphasize the critical importance of proper revert segregation and management to avoid the issues caused by delivering “mixed revert” as “furnace ready” material to Ross & Catherall.
Read moreWe understand that the casting market is experiencing increased demand, and the quick turnaround of revert is essential for maintaining your competitiveness and meeting volume increases.
Unfortunately, there have been increasing incidents of “furnace ready” revert being delivered with unsegregated “mixed” alloy grades. This is not “furnace ready” material and can result in out-of-specification (OOS) melts if not detected.
Ross & Catherall conducts random tests on each box or package of revert delivered to ensure it aligns with the accompanying documentation. However, since the inspection is random, “mixed” alloy revert may not always be detected. The effectiveness of this check depends on the quantity of “mixed” revert present and whether it is selected for testing.
To prevent, and reduce “mixed revert” incidents, we recommend sharing the enclosed documents with your foundry colleagues to ensure proper segregation by alloy grade at your site, there are some examples that may assist.
Ross & Catherall’s in-house revert department maximises the value of your foundry-generated revert by providing 100% inspection, reducing OOS potentials, cleaning, and cutting to size, ensuring the revert is “furnace ready” for our furnaces.
To help us to meet the agreed melting and despatch schedules, we have advised customers on the importance of delivering revert on the agreed dates and ensuring it is segregated into the correct alloy grades before delivery to Ross & Catherall.
Unsegregated “mixed revert” can disrupt the melting schedule, as the batch must be quarantined, and corrective actions agreed upon with customers, such as Ross & Catherall completing 100% inspection or returning the material for segregation. This will delay the original melt dates.
If you wish to discuss utilising Ross & Catherall’s revert management services, including 100% inspection, cleaning, and cutting to size to make it “furnace ready,” please contact your account manager directly.
