A few weeks ago, we noted that element prices were on the rise. The initial tariff announcement's impact on minor cost elements, such as Tungsten (W) has now extended to the main elements used in manufacturing superalloys.

Unsurprisingly, the commodity markets have reacted with uncertainty, causing prices to increase.

Cobalt (Co), one of the major cost elements, has now started to feel this impact. Markets have responded, mines are reviewing volumes, and as a result, processing and refining have decreased, leading to higher prices. In fact, over the past 10 days, there has been over 25% increase per kilogram.

For countries imposing these tariffs, the impact is doubled: not only have the market prices changed, the tariff adds an additional 20% to the cost on the imported elements.

By taking proactive steps now, you can navigate these challenges effectively and ensure a more stable and cost-effective future. Should you secure your forward alloy requirements now, or wait to see if prices fall? That is something only you can determine.
